چکیده

This paper presents an objective singing quality evaluation approach based on a study of the relationship between acoustic measurements and perceptual ratings of singing voice quality. Individual perceptual criteria’s contributions to the overall rating are also investigated to find significant evaluation terms. Experimental results show that critical perceptual criteria for singing evaluation have strong correlation with objective acoustic parameters, especially with combined acoustic features. And the proposed objective evaluation approach is tested to be comparable to human judges.

Acoustic Analysis of Persian EFL Learners' Pronunciation of English Vowels

This paper reports the results of an experimental study on non-native production of English vowels. Two groups of Persian EFL learners varying in language proficiency were tested on their ability to produce the nine plain vowels of American English. Vowel production accuracy was assessed by means of acoustic measurements. Ladefoged and Maddison’s (1996) F1 F2 measurements for American English v...

Lay Listeners Can Evaluate the Pitch Accuracy of Operatic Voices

LAY LISTENERS ARE RELIABLE JUDGES WHEN evaluating pitch accuracy of occasional singers, suggesting that enculturation and laypersons’ perceptual abilities are sufficient to judge ‘‘simple’’ music material adequately. However, the definition of pitch accuracy in operatic performances is much more complex than in melodies performed by occasional singers. Furthermore, because listening to operatic...

The Impact of Vocal Cool-down Exercises: A Subjective Study of Singers' and Listeners' Perceptions.

OBJECTIVE Using subjective measures, this study investigated singers' and listeners' perceptions of changes in voice condition after vocal cool-down exercises. STUDY DESIGN A single-subject crossover was designed to evaluate whether there were discernible differences in either singer or listener perceptions from pre (no vocal cool downs) to post (with cool downs) test. Subjective questionnair...

An investigation of acoustic features for singing voice conversion based on perceptual age

In this paper, we investigate the acoustic features that can be modified to control the perceptual age of a singing voice. Singers can sing expressively by controlling prosody and vocal timbre, but the varieties of voices that singers can produce are limited by physical constraints. Previous work has attempted to overcome this limitation through the use of statistical voice conversion. This tec...
